Book Review: The Long Walk – Richard Bachman (AKA Stephen King)

Title of Book
The Long Walk

Author of Book
Richard Bachman (AKA Stephen King)

Plot Summary
The book follows some contestants of a horrific walking contest. One hundred teenage boys (picked at random from a large pool of applicants) participate in an annual walking contest called “The Long Walk.” Each Walker must maintain a speed of at least four miles per hour; if he drops below this speed for a total of 30 seconds (all at once or spread out over time), he receives a verbal warning. Walkers can eliminate a warning by walking for an hour without being warned. If, however, a Walker with three warnings slows down again, he is “ticketed”.

Your Review
In the beginning 100 walkers start walking, all boys, who have signed up for this content. The winner will win whatever they want, forever, for always. The boys think this is great, a game, and not that hard.

What follows for them is awful, they realise what they have really let themselves in for. It’s just as much a walk of the mind as it is a walk of the feet.
This book is funny, sad, makes you angry, a whole range of feelings. When you discover one of the boys is married…
